The Ramblings and Ruminations of a Vanderbilt Undergraduate from Franklin, TN

Friday, November 7, 2008

No, I didn't jump off a building after the Mississippi State loss, but it wasn't because I didn't want to...

I just haven't had anything to say. I think the play of our team the last couple weeks, save a few highlights from the Jawja game, has said it all.

But I'm back for more. Why? because I'm a Vandy fan and that's just what we do. Facing nearly insurrmountable odds we keep showing up and keep pulling for the 'Dores to somehow, someway, get over "the hump" or "turn the corner" that we've been almost over or around for about, 30 years or so.

So why now? Of all games to get excited about Florida certainly wouldn't be the obvious choice. The Gators did everything but have sex with the 'Dawgs last weekend at the Cocktail Party, and we're fresh off the bye week after the gut-wrenching, pull your still-beating heart of your chest cavity, loss to Duke.

Here are my concerns going into tomorrow night's match up with the Gators:

1. Tim Tebow- Fulfilling his promise that no one would push the Gators harder than he would. His swag has been phenomenal since the Ole Miss loss.

2. Speed- Florida has it, en masse. Yes, Vanderbilt is faster and more athletic than in recent years, but Florida is the measuring stick in the SEC.

3. Points- How many can we hold the Gators to? If Florida scores in excess of 28 points Vanderbilt probably isn't coming out ahead. For the 'Dores to have a chance the defense will need to somehow limit the Gators' offense early. Vanderbilt's offense has been worse than bad the past three games, and has to, at a minimum, move the ball and chew up the clock. That being said: Vanderbilt must score on defense and/or special teams to have a shot against Florida.

To look on the bright side of things:
The game doesn't kick until 7 PM local time. The Commodores tend to play better in Nashville after the sun goes down.

Game time temps figure to be in the 40's, which will hopefully slow the Gators down.

Vandy is also 3-0 on the ESPN family of networks this year.

As Always,

Go 'Dores!
