The Ramblings and Ruminations of a Vanderbilt Undergraduate from Franklin, TN

Off to the Magnolia State!

Yes folks, we're packing up and heading west, and also south, but mostly west, to the wonderous and magical city known as Oxford, MS. While not quite the land of milk and honey, it is home to
the notorious Grove as well as some of the most beautiful women on the planet. I think it is safe to say that I will not be updating while I am away, but i wanted to leave everyone with some thoughts before I depart.

Vanderbilt leads the SEC with 10 sacks on the season. Ole Miss has yet to surrender a sack this year. Something tells me these statistics will play an integral role in Saturday's matchup. Jevan Snead has yet to face an SEC defense. His ability or inability to deal with the pressure will be key. He looked good dancing around the pocket against Wake Forest, but I think Broderick Stewart and Steven Stone are really going to bring the pain Saturday night.

I'm going out on a limb here and predicting that whoever wins the turnover battle will win this game. If Chris Nickson can continue to make smart throws and protect the football Vanderbilt will be in a great position to win. Things will be even better if the defense can continue to generate take aways, especially drive killers.

This is Vanderbilt's first SEC road game. While Vaught-Hemmingway is certainly not renowned for its deafening atmosphere, it will be an adjustment. Given that nearly all of Vanderbilt's big wins have been on the road in recent years, I am not overly concerned.

For those of you watching at home, oh wait. This game isn't even on TV so you won't be watching from home. It will be on the radio (104.5 The Zone) and will be replayed Sunday at Noon (I think) on CSS. Here's hoping it's a replay we want to watch.

Finally, my favorite part of the Ole Miss "experience" is always the approximately 9,000 little boys running around named "Eli". They may play football in other places, but nobody lives it like SEC fans.

As Always,

Go 'Dores!
