A little break from football

I know football season is just getting reved up and Vanderbilt has a must win game tomorrow at home against Rice, but I would like to take this time to discuss the new men's basketball jerseys as well as the schedule, which was also finally released earlier this week.

Here's the link to the gallery at VUCommodores.com. A.J., Jamie Graham, Andre Walker, and Darshawn McLellan were chosen to model the new uniforms. I'm not digging these nearly as much as the new football duds, but I definitely think they have some potential. It looks like the days of the traditional basketball jersey are over as the 'Dores have made the switch to the generic Nike look with a more fitted top (smaller armholes and neckhole) over still pretty baggy shorts. Thankfully, the old-west style type face made the jump to the new jerseys, so we can maintain at least a small amount of our individuality as we will more likely than not be playing teams wearing identical jersey designs all year long. The black jerseys were the only ones showcased, but I think it's only safe to assume that we will see the same style in a white and a gold as well.

Overall I think they're a nice update. It's pretty cool to get the freshest gear from Nike, and I'm sure they'll look great on one of our 6 national television appearances.

Here's a link to the rest of the schedule. At first glance the most crucial stretch occurs in late January as the 'Dores will take on the Vols on Tuesday (Jan. 20th) night on ESPN and then entertain the Florida Gators (Jan. 25th) the following Sunday on CBS. Other highlights include a CBS matchup with Ole Miss on Saturday February 12 at noon. When was the last time Vandy played on CBS against someone other than Florida or UK? ESPN has also picked up Vandy's February 17 tussle with the Wildkitties at Memorial, another Tuesday night game, slated for an 8 PM start.

Check back on Monday for post-Rice coverage. I will also have another article at VandyMania sometime next week, so make sure to look for that as well.

As Always,

Go 'Dores!
