And the accolades just keep stacking up for Da Truth. It didn't come as a surprise to many yesterday when the AP announced that Shan Foster was their selection for SEC Player of the Year. Foster adds this to the SEC Coaches POY award, Rivals.com First Team All-American, and CBS Second Team All-American. I'm not going to post another lengthy story on how much Shan has meant to this university or how big of a man-crush I have on him. There's nothing else I can really say. Let's get back to work and show those chumps at CBS who're picking Siena what Vanderbilt basketball is all about.
The baseball team rallied from a crushing defeat Saturday to win the series against the visiting South Carolina Gamecocks. Vanderbilt won Friday's game 4-3 due in no large part to the bat of Ryan Flaherty. Coincidentally, it was Flaherty's fielding error in the top of the first of Saturday's game that allowed the Cocks to open up a 5-0 lead on the Commodores. Nick Christiani started for the 'Dores and went 2.1 innings giving up 9 hits and 9 runs, 4 of which were unearned due to Flash's error, before being taken out of the game. Christiani was credited with the decision. Carolina went on to win the game 16-7. The 'Dores were able to get the win on Sunday thanks to the pitching of redshirt freshman Caleb Cotham who went 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, 5 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 9 in his first SEC start. Andrew Giobbi had 4 RBI as the 'Dores cruised to a 10-4 victory. This series was an important win for Vandy as South Carolina was ranked 8th in the Baseball America top 25. Vanderbilt was ranked 6th. In the new poll The Commodores moved up to the 5 spot while USC dropped to 13.
Let's get ready to rock on Friday. Anyone going to Tampa for the game?
As always,
Go 'Dores!
